The short version of the rules.

These terms cover your use of the Sitelight browser extension and the getsitelight.com website. By installing the extension or subscribing to Premium, you're agreeing to what's below. If you don't agree, you can uninstall the extension at any time — there's no dark pattern in the uninstall flow.

What Sitelight is and isn't

Sitelight is a helper. It gives you a best-effort trust signal based on public data sources and reasonable checks. It is not a guarantee. A green shield does not mean a site is perfectly safe, and a red or yellow shield does not mean a site is definitely fraudulent. You are always the one making the final decision about what to type on a web page, and you always retain that responsibility. We're here to make that decision easier, not to take it from you.

Your account (or lack of one)

The free tier has no account, so there's nothing to sign up for or log out of. For Premium, your subscription is linked to a random identifier generated by your browser on install — not to an email address. See the privacy policy for the full details on how that works.

Paid subscriptions

Premium is billed through Stripe at $4.99 per month or $39 per year, as shown on the pricing page at the time you subscribe. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the extension's options page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — if something went wrong, email [email protected] and we'll make it right.

Fair use

Please don't abuse the service by hammering the scoring endpoint with a script, attempting to reverse-engineer the signature verification, or using Sitelight to build a competing product. We reserve the right to rate-limit or block access that looks like abuse. Normal human browsing will never come close to any limit we've set.

Limits of liability

Sitelight is provided "as is." We do our best to keep the service fast, accurate, and private, but we can't guarantee zero downtime or perfect detection of every scam on the internet. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the last 12 months, which for free users is zero.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. If we make a change that meaningfully affects your rights, we'll update the date at the top of this page and tell you about it in the extension. Minor wording changes may happen without notice.
